Welcome to the
Drivers of Behavior Course

Apply the drivers of behavior change to design better experiences

In this self-paced course, you will get a practical understanding of the drivers of behavior with the COM-B model and the Theoretical Domain Framework and see how a Behavior Design Diagnosis can help you remove barriers to change.

This hands-on course is actionable and practical and will help you get started right away!

What People Are Saying

Zoe G:

‘‘When we work to help people to change their behaviors and achieve outcomes that are so important to them, our approach must be evidence based and strategic. It's been great to refresh my knowledge on behavioral diagnosis using COM-B and TDF, a way to truly understand barriers and enablers for target behaviors and design interventions that work. I'd recommend this highly actionable course from Aim For Behavior!’’

Oliver W:

‘‘Great course for helping you understanding not only what the COM-B model is but also how to put it in practice. I particularly like the way he takes you through multiple barriers and codes them as an example, it really helps solidify the knowledge, especially where some barriers could at first thought be placed into multiple categories.’’

What is the course about?

This is a self-paced course that will teach you how to diagnose what is influencing or driving your customers or employees behaviors and actions.

In the lessons, you will learn with me some theory as well as observe examples of how to use the COM-B Model and the Theoretical Domains Framework.

What will you learn?

This course is very practical and can serve as the first step for you to understand and apply a Behavior Diagnosis in your work.

You will learn how to use COM-B/TDF to analyze your current data and add a layer of behavior insights into your personas, journeys, or processes.

The course will have some light theory of what the COM-B model is as well as some lessons where I show you how the COM-B model is used in a project to diagnose barriers and enablers of behavior.

By the end of this course, you will have a solid understanding of the COM-B model and be confident in your ability to apply a diagnosis in your work and be able to work on strategies to remove the barriers your customers or employees have with your products and services or even processes.

Your Instructor

Hi, I’m Robert Meza.

For the last 15 years I have been working in innovation and human centred design.

Some highlights include: building 2 startups, helping a company create a new division and new digital products for its $100M+ sale, and setting up an innovation lab as part of a digital transformation within the government.

I now spend my time applying behavior science as a lens in my role as a consultant and also an instructor through my courses.

I hope you enjoy this course and look forward to hearing from you on how you will use it to get better outcomes.

Course Structure

The course will be comprised of 2 parts.

Part 1: Behavior and Context

We will briefly discuss different ways of defining behavior and why it is important for you to diagnose the influences or drivers of behavior.

Part 2: Diagnosing Behavior using the COM-B Model and the Theoretical Domains Framework

In this part I will provide you with a deeper understanding of the COM-B model and show you how to use it to find the influences or drivers of behavior.

Capability refers to people's physical and psychological abilities, Motivation involves whether there is sufficient motivation for behavior, and Opportunity considers the physical and social environment with which people interact. The diagram highlights their roles as barriers and facilitators to behavior change.
